New York is synonymous with crowded venues, bustling sidewalks, and just never enough space. Body politics get even messier when you are a woman with a disability for public space frankly has not been constructed with your accessibility and emotional needs in mind. As we move into Fall, I’m reflecting on my recent opportunity to … Continue reading →

Scars are diamonds

Due to a chemotherapy procedure I ended up with a nickel sized scar near my right shoulder blade, whenever I would go out I’d cover it with makeup and thought to myself “one day I’ll save enough money to fix it surgically”.  Months later I had a hip replacement and a muscle flap and 4 … Continue reading →

I was 15 battling cancer and not responding to treatment that well. 1 day,I was watching the Oprah show and the segment was about a healer in Brazil who had cured many from ailments, people coming from all over the world gave testimonials. As my mom was asleep, I called my aunt to convince her to watch the show. It didn’t take much to convince my mom, after all she was a woman of faith and we were both desperate. After we talked to my doctor, all the plans were underway. The day we were to depart, I went to see my doctor one last time and both my white blood and red blood cells were low- prone to infection, doc became reluctant about letting me travel. I could see the fear in my mom’s eyes, were we about to miss a life changing opportunity?A blood and platelets transfusion later, I was given the ok to travel. . We arrived in Abadiania and people just as desperate as us all in white were roaming this small compound: I recall meeting a man with schizophrenia, a mother making the trip for her paralized daughter and many more. John of god performed surgeries on some:by cutting their bellies open or inserting a sharp object up there noses. More cautious than desperate my mom opted for the crystal therapy and a spiritual surgery, which was performed wellll spiritually. . After the trip, we came back to the US, to find that nothing had changed. Sure we were disappointed but at least we tried. . A couple of days ago I was in Dubai and met a Brazilian girl, I told her I’d been to a town close to Brazilia , told her I went to see a healer and she replied “John of god?” She then told me he was arrested fo molesting women, “shooketh” does not even begin to express how I felt. A quick google search and there it was, arrested for : running sex slave farms, held young women to produce babies and sell them for up to $50,000, 600 women accused him of sexual abuse, victim ranging from age 7-67, some of the accusers mysteriously committed suicide-and the list goes on. . Thinking about this whole experience has often angered me to see how naive I was but now it just makes me sick to my stomach because I might have been touched by a devil right here on earth. ____________

✈️ Heading to Dubai 🇦🇪 for work if y’all have suggestions on places to see/eat/dance drop em below. Thought I’d wear this cute outfit but reality is PJs are probably more comfortable for a long flight. (Top of the suitcase peep the emotional support plant 🌵😏) . I had the most touching encounter this morning. I got in a ride share and a couple of minutes later a woman gets in and greets me with a smile. Over a Celine Dion track she turns to me and as she gets emotional, she tells me that a friend of hers passed away recently and to honor him a group of friends have been wearing pastel colors all week. Her friend never wore black so they thought mourning him while wearing black wouldn’t be fitting. Told her I’d dedicate this pastel dream to her late friend. This life so fleeting make sure to let your friends know that you love them. 😌 #mamacax #pastel #emotionalsupportplant _________________________________________________
